"My 'history' with Santa Teresa Gallura began in about 1985. I was kid and sbarcavo for the first time in Santa Teresa Gallura from Corsica. Since then I have not gone more. I was literally dazzled by this fishing village: its smells ... In the last twenty years of my life I have known countries and seas around the world, but my heart remained in Santa Teresa Gallura and this is where I now live ".

Born in Busto Arsizio (VA) August 28, 1965, and his lung capacity of 7.9 liters and a physical structure which, together with talent, passion and a lot of training, led him to the professional world summits with world records and accolades maximum prestige.

His first world record in constant weight apnea deep it establishes November 10, 1990, in Porto Azzurro, Elba Island; Here Umberto Pelizzari already offers concrete ideas of what would be his professional path, getting on his debut in this difficult discipline, the new apnea in constant weight world record dive touching the share of -65 meters and beating of 3 meters the record established by Pipin Ferreras.

Will this be the start date of a long challenge "last breath" between these two athletes who monopolize the apnea world for the next 15 years.

In September 1991, more and Elba it conquers all free diving record: October 3 down to -67 meters in constant weight of 2 meters improving her previous limit and 22 of the same month also gets the world record immersion in apnea in variable weight reaching -95 meters and therefore improving the three-meter primacy conquered by Pipin in September '90 in Milazzo.

On October 26, he obtains his third world triumph in a month, winning with -118 meters also the absolute apnea diving record.
A long series of dates follow one another to tell personal firsts and world records.
September 17, 1992 in Ustica, regaining with -70 meters world record of immersion in apnea in constant weight that had been snatched on May 27 of that year by Pipin.
The October 11, 1993, off the coast of Montecristo, it establishes a new record in "no limits" variable weight descending to -123 meters.
July 24, 1994 Cala Gonone, Sardinia, reaches his new world record in immersion in apnea in variable weight descending to -101.
In July 1995, at Villasimius in Sardegna, he claims two new world records: -72 meters in constant weight (16th July) and -105 meters in variable weight.
In 1996, again in Villasimius, it offers a double world: 9 September with -110 meters he takes the record in variable weight and 16 with -131 meters, takes away Pipin's record in "no limits".
The September 13, 1997, in Porto Venere in Liguria, regains record in constant weight with the depth of -75 meters, beating the Cuban Alejandro Ravelo (-73 meters) and 20 September, dropping to -115 meters, the reconquest tearing variable at the same Cuban (-111 meters).
September 12, 1998 during an unusual exhibition in which Umberto Pelizzari emulate the exploits of a greek sponge diver Georgios Statti Haggi, the athlete reaches -100 meters in a time of 2'43 '' no changes nor fins, helping in the descent with a stone of little more than 7 kg.
1999 sees Umberto Pelizzari returning player on the racing scene worldwide. On October 18, off Portofino, set a new world record in Constant Weight Apnea at - 80 meters, surpassing the previous limit of 4 meters held by Alejandro Ravelo.
On 24 October, with the technical support of Nave Anteo (Italian Navy), Umberto engages in business history in the world of diving and medicine: - 150 meters in No Limits Variable trim. With a dive by 2'57 ", Pelizzari touches the limit ever achieved by man in apnea, breaking the previous record of over 12 meters.
In 2000 Umberto Pelizzari is engaged in the realization of the IMAX film titled OceanMen, who tells his story in parallel with that of Pipin.

In October 2001 the Italian National, Umberto, with Davide Carrera and Gaspare Battaglia, has received the gold medal at the Apnea World Championship for Nations. On November 3, in the waters of Capri, conquer the new world record of apnea in variable weight with -131metri.Umberto dedicates this last record to anyone of competitive activity in these eleven years, were neighbors and decided to retire from competitions with three records in the three specialties apnea.

E 'currently working as a journalist and television reporter in popular science programs and the marine environment.
He created the Apnea Academy school for the dissemination, teaching and apnea underwater research worldwide.
He works as a trainer and lecturer for G.I.S. (Special Intervention Group), the elite unit of the Carabinieri.

E 'was named by the Ministry of the Interior as a member of the faculty of courses for divers of the fire brigade.
Since 2006 he is Professor at the Scuola Normale Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa, at the second level Master of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine.
From September 2013 Umberto is Professor of the Master in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine of the University of Trapani Consortium, teaching center of the University of Palermo.
